The 42-year-old driver involved in Monday's fatal multi-vehicle crash in Tampines has been handed four charges. Three of the charges Muhammad Syafie Ismail is facing relate to dangerous driving. The most serious offence -- causing death -- carries a jail term of up to eight years. In court, the prosecution said there may be additional charges as authorities await medical reports. Bail was set at $30,000 and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for 7 June. Syafie will be electronically tagged. He must report to the investigation officer when required. Nadirah Zaidi reports.

The labour movement said it will step up support for Professional, Managers and Executives (PMEs) in workplace protection, career progression and job placement. This, as PMEs make up 45% of its membership. NTUC is ensuring a level-playing field for PMEs to get fair access to jobs. It will standardise hiring practices across different companies.
