The Reserve Bank of India has raised its key interest rates by a quarter point. This is the sixth straight rate increase and was largely expected. But the central bank surprised markets by leaving the door open to more tightening, saying core inflation remained high despite signs that retail inflation has peaked. The annual retail inflation rate eased to 5.7% in December from 5.9% in November. With today's hike, the key repo rate stands at 6.5%.
