Ash and dust covered the roads and roofs of residential areas around Indonesia's Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano after it erupted a day earlier and sent an ash plume of over 10 km (6.2 miles) into the sky. Although sparsely populated, some residents who work and frequent the 7 km (4.3 miles) risk radius around the volcano such as 34 year-old Elisabet Semoi Liwu said that the village was engulfed in "red smoke" when the eruption occurred. "It was terrifying... When the volcano erupted, we were on our front lawn. But then the stones started raining down on us and we ran to Hikong (a different town)," she said.
