Watch live as UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak holds Conservative Party campaign launch event after calling general election.
Mr Sunak has today declared UK inflation is “back to normal” in a “major milestone” for the country, as it hit its lowest level in nearly three years despite falling by less than economists were expecting.
Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation slowed to 2.3 per cent in April, down from 3.2 per cent in March, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
It is the lowest level since July 2021 when inflation was recorded at 2 per cent – the Bank of England’s target level.
But the decline was smaller than expected as economists had predicted CPI would fall to 2.1 per cent in April, within a whisker of the Bank’s target.
Speaking in Downing Street, the prime minister said the fall in inflation is a “major milestone”, but he admitted there is “more work to do”.
“That is an important moment for our country, for the economy, and shows that our plan is working,” Mr Sunak said.

We’ve all heard that using our phones before bed is bad for us, but do we actually know why?
One of the most commonly cited reasons is that our phone’s blue light is disrupting our ability to fall asleep. And study after study has shown that just changing the color of light, or turning on night mode or night shift, isn’t enough to counteract the effects of our screens. The truth is that color temperature is just one aspect of how our phone light is stimulating our brains. Sleep science suggests that the key to getting good rest is much more complex.
So if using night shift on our phones is not the only solution, and we know we’re likely going to keep scrolling before bed, is there a better way to use our phones at night...without disrupting our sleep?

Video: Dec Tells King Ant Missing as He is at Home ‘Breastfeeding’
The King was told by TV presenter Declan Donnelly that his celebrity partner Ant McPartlin was missing from a Prince’s Trust reception because he was “breastfeeding”. Donnelly, one half of the Ant and Dec double act, apologised to Charles on behalf of his friend McPartlin, who was looking after his newborn son. The Buckingham Palace reception gave the King the chance to meet the winners at the Prince's Trust awards - and he chatted to recipients and celebrities who had presented the awards, including actor Martin Freeman, Pixie Lott and Ellie Simmonds. Video: This Major Change By The King Has Left Windsor Residents Upsets
King Charles has broken a 200-year-old tradition at Windsor Castle, leaving local residents very upset.
Previously residents who live near Windsor Castle were allowed free access to the historic site a tradition which dates back to 1895.
However, as of June 1st, 2024 the residents will be charged for their visit.
The Royal Collection Trust will implement a discounted fee, for residents with a Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Advantage Card.

Video: Russia releases footage showing satellite launch
The United States has assessed that Russia launched what is likely a counter space weapon last week that's now in the same orbit as a U.S. government satellite, Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said.
"What I'm tracking here is on May 16, as you highlighted, Russia launched a satellite into low Earth orbit that we that we assess is likely a counter space weapon presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit," Ryder said.
This footage shows video from the Russian Defense Ministry showing a military satellite launch into near-orbit.

Russia’s military on Tuesday began drills involving tactical nuclear weapons that were announced by Russian authorities earlier this month in an apparent warning to senior Western officials who had spoken about the possibility of deeper involvement in the so-called "special military operation" in Ukraine.
It was the first time Russia has publicly announced drills involving tactical nuclear weapons, although its strategic nuclear forces regularly hold exercises.
According to a statement by the Defense Ministry released Tuesday, the first stage of the new drills envisioned “practical training in the preparation and use of non-strategic nuclear weapons,” including nuclear-capable Kinzhal and Iskander missiles.
