Update 0:38 GMT:
Two people have reportedly died after gunshots were fired at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania – with the injured former president rushed off stage by armed security. Butler County District attorney told the Associated Press (AP) that a shooter was dead and that a rally attendee had also been killed. A second spectator is in serious condition.
Trump appeared to fall to the ground and was immediately surrounded by armed security personnel who swiftly escorted him off the stage. The incident occurred amidst heightened security concerns.Witnesses described a chaotic scene with people scrambling for cover, while law enforcement officers secured the area. The identity and motive of the shooter remain unknown, but local authorities have launched a thorough investigation. Sources indicate that Trump is unharmed and has been taken to a secure location.
The Trump campaign has yet to release an official statement, but this incident has significantly heightened security concerns at political events. Federal and local law enforcement agencies are actively involved in the investigation.
This rally is part of Trump’s ongoing efforts to galvanize support for his 2024 presidential bid. Earlier this year, Trump made several campaign stops in Pennsylvania, including a major rally in April in the Lehigh Valley. The campaign recently opened its first office in Philadelphia, reflecting Trump’s intensified focus on this key battleground state

London witnessed a spectacular aerial display today as the annual Trooping the Colour flypast celebrated King Charles III’s official birthday. The Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force’s elite aerobatic team, delivered a breathtaking performance, captured from a unique vantage point in South West London.
The flypast began at RAF Waddington and featured a diverse array of aircraft, including Chinooks, Typhoons, the Voyager, and the A400M Atlas. The formation soared over key London landmarks, ultimately passing over Buckingham Palace, where the royal family watched from the balcony. This year’s event was especially notable for the Princess of Wales’ first public appearance following recent health news, accompanied by her three children.

Trooping the Colour is a long-standing tradition involving over 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians. The grand military parade culminates in the eagerly awaited flypast, a highlight for both attendees and viewers around the world. For aviation enthusiasts, the flypast showcased a blend of classic and modern military aircraft, performing coordinated maneuvers and creating impressive visual patterns against London’s skyline.
The Red Arrows, in particular, executed precise aerobatic displays, leaving their signature red, white, and blue smoke trails.
Trooping the Colour not only celebrates the monarch’s birthday but also pays tribute to the British Armed Forces. It reflects the nation’s history and traditions, highlighting the close relationship between the military and the monarchy.
King Charles III, donning the ceremonial uniform of the Welsh Guards, led the parade on horseback, reviving a tradition last seen with Queen Elizabeth II in the 1980s.
Trooping the Colour has been a fixture of British royal celebrations for over 260 years. The parade travels from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, where the king inspects the troops and the regimental flags are presented. The event is broadcast live, allowing viewers worldwide to join in the celebration.
ChatGPT, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based text-based dialogue system, has been trained on vast amounts of internet data and is capable of reorganizing information to create texts that are almost indistinguishable from those produced by human minds. (Watch this video about “What is ChatGPT”)This poses significant new challenges for schools and universities. However, scientific publishers are also faced with new challenges as AI systems are increasingly being used to assist in research and writing of scientific papers. At least four studies have been published so far in which AI was listed as a co-author, as the scientific journal “Nature” has just reported in an article. The topic has also been discussed by leaders during the World Economic Forum this week.
The use of ChatGPT as an author on a medRxiv study about the use of chatbots in medical education is one example that has sparked a debate among publishers and experts about the question of authorship. The team behind the preprint server and its sister site bioRxiv is currently discussing whether this is acceptable. Co-founder Richard Sever, also the deputy publisher of Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, points out that only humans can take legal responsibility as authors. The fact that AI chatbots slip into the author list can happen – similar to pets and fictional people in the past, Sever said. But this is more “a control problem than a fundamental one.
Similarly, an editorial on using ChatGPT in nursing education listed the AI system as an author, but the responsible parties said it was a mistake. Nature has found two more studies that list ChatGPT in the author line. (here und here)
Editors of leading scientific journals have also weighed in on the issue, with Magdalena Skipper, editor-in-chief of Nature in London, stating that ChatGPT does not meet the standard for authorship. She believes that those who use systems like ChatGPT to create articles should document this, but not in the author line, but in the methods or acknowledgments section. “We would not allow an AI to be listed as an author in a paper published by us,” adds Holden Thorp, editor-in-chief of the Science magazine family. The use of AI-generated text without proper citation may be considered plagiarism.
According to Taylor & Francis, a British scientific publisher based in London, they have not received any submissions of studies with ChatGPT authorship. The publisher is currently discussing the fundamental approach to this phenomenon, says Sabina Alam, the head of the ethics and integrity department of the publisher. She also emphasizes that authors are responsible for the validity and integrity of their work and that AI systems should be transparently mentioned in the acknowledgments.
Many experts in the field agree that AI systems like ChatGPT should be acknowledged in the methods or acknowledgments section rather than listed as authors. Matt Hodgkinson, a researcher on scientific integrity in the UK, points out that co-authors must make a “significant scientific contribution” to an article, which is something that software can do but cannot take responsibility for the study. This idea of AI co-authorship is limited by the fact that AI systems cannot agree to the terms of publication and cannot take responsibility for the work.
Overall, as AI systems like ChatGPT become more advanced and widely used in scientific research, the question of authorship will continue to be a topic of debate among publishers and experts. While AI systems can assist in the research and writing process, they do not meet the criteria for authorship. Therefore, the use of AI systems should be properly documented and acknowledged in the methods or acknowledgments section of scientific papers.
