United States President Donald Trump unveiled higher tariffs for Japan, South Korea and a dozen other countries in a push for new trade deals - but delayed the deadline until August for the steeper levies to kick in. This extension comes after a 90-day negotiation period since Trump first announced his so-called reciprocal tariffs in April. Stephen Olson, a senior visiting fellow at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, tells CNA’s Asia First Trump’s repeated deadline extensions suggest that negotiations are likely not to have reached the White House’s desired outcome.
