Outrage is mounting in Rio de Janeiro as a controversial law offering police cash bonuses for killing alleged criminals sparks widespread criticism. Dubbed the "Wild West" bill, the policy has drawn condemnation from human rights advocates and families who have lost loved ones to police violence. The legislation, approved by state legislators, promises bonuses up to 150% of an officer’s salary for "neutralising" criminals, a move opponents argue will exacerbate violence in Brazil’s vulnerable communities. Families of victims, including mothers who have united in protest, claim the policy incentivises extrajudicial killings and lacks accountability. Critics point to the devastating impact of a similar initiative in the 1990s, which reportedly resulted in a rise in executions and did little to curb crime. Supporters of the bill, however, say it responds to public demand for stronger measures to combat gang violence. Hamas is continuing to review the US President's plans for an end to the war in Gaza. Donald trump says he has given Hamas “three to four days” to respond to his latest proposal. He's warning the group there will be severe consequences if it fails to accept the deal. The ultimatum came a day after Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, where they presented a 20-point proposal for a ceasefire.
