Man Harasses Women and Hurls Them into Ravine: Prosecutor Suspects Initial Sexual Offense, Followed by Shocking Attack

Update 3:59 pm German time: The women encountered the 30-year-old man during a hike on Wednesday afternoon. Before the violent attack, he had reportedly harassed them sexually. The location of their meeting is described as east of Marienbrücke.
The victims were found lying next to each other about 50 meters deep in the ravine. The rescue operation was carried out by Bergwacht Füssen, a local mountain rescue service. The 22-year-old woman was responsive when found, while her friend was airlifted to a clinic where she succumbed to her injuries.
The 30-year-old suspect was presented before a magistrate at the Kempten District Court following his arrest. The court approved the prosecutor’s request for an arrest warrant, and the suspect has been placed in a correctional facility.

Schwangau, Bavaria – The serene ambiance of one of Germany’s top tourist attractions, Neuschwanstein Castle, was shattered when a 31-year-old man launched a shocking attack on two young American women, aged 21 and 22. The encounter, initially marked by sexual harassment, took a deadly turn as both women were forcibly thrown into a nearby ravine.
A Scenic Hike Morphs into a Scene of Horror
Senior public prosecutor, Thomas Hörmann, provided a chilling account of the incident to German newspaper BILD. “The crime occurred on Wednesday around 2:40 PM German time. The two tourists met the man on a hiking tour east of Marienbrücke and ended up joining him,” he said. As the trio made their way to an overlook via a beaten path, the situation took a horrifying turn when the man attacked the 21-year-old woman.
A Brave Attempt to Help Ends in Tragedy

Coming to her friend’s aid, the 22-year-old woman tried to intervene, only to be choked and thrown down the slope by the assailant. The 21-year-old was also thrust into the ravine. Rescuers found the pair approximately 50 meters below, highlighting the grim scene of the horrific events that unfolded. The 22-year-old was responsive at the scene, but tragically, her friend was airlifted to a nearby clinic where she later succumbed to her injuries.
This incident triggered a large-scale police operation at the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the attack, close to the crime scene, following a comprehensive manhunt.
Kempten’s Criminal Police immediately took over the investigation, examining charges of attempted murder, murder, and sexual offenses related to the case. Given the challenging nature of the steep terrain at the crime scene, specialists from the Alpine Operations Group provided valuable support in the investigation.
