Career

Matthias is a co-founding partner of karo IP, a patent and intellectual property firm in Dusseldorf. He trained as a mechanical engineer (Diplom-Ingenieur, RWTH Aachen) before qualifying as both a German Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. He later earned an LL.M. in European IP Law and in 2023 obtained the European Patent Litigation Certificate, qualifying him to represent clients before the new Unified Patent Court.

karo IP serves clients across automotive, mechanical engineering, software, IT, medical technology, and biotechnology, with recognition from the Financial Times as one of Europe’s Leading Patent Law Firms, WirtschaftsWoche Top Kanzleien, IAM Patent 1000, Best Lawyers Germany, Legal 500, and Leaders League. Matthias personally received the Client Choice Award 2021 for IP and Patent in Germany, is named a Who’s Who Legal Thought Leader, and is listed among the IAM Strategy 300 Global Leaders in IP strategy. He has lectured on international patent, trademark, and design rights at RWTH Aachen since 2007. For LiveTube, Matthias protects the company’s patent-pending verification technology and advises on IP strategy as the platform expands internationally.
